Restore Strength and Beauty to Your Smile

When a tooth is severely decayed, cracked, or weakened, a standard filling may not be enough to provide lasting protection. At St. Pierre Family Dentistry, we specialize in high-quality dental crowns—often called “caps”—to restore the full function and appearance of your teeth.

A dental crown is a custom-fitted restoration that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, acting as a protective “helmet” that prevents further damage while blending perfectly with your natural smile.

Modern Materials: Zirconia and eMax Crowns

Dr. St. Pierre is committed to using only the most advanced, durable, and aesthetic materials available in modern dentistry. We prioritize restorations that offer the perfect balance of strength and beauty, which is why we utilize:

  • Zirconia Crowns: Known for their incredible strength, Zirconia is an ideal choice for back teeth (molars) that endure heavy biting forces. It is biocompatible, resistant to chipping, and can be precisely matched to your tooth shade.
  • eMax Crowns: Made from lithium disilicate glass-ceramic, eMax crowns are widely considered the gold standard for aesthetic restorations. Their translucent quality mimics natural tooth enamel better than any other material, making them perfect for your front teeth and most visible areas of your smile.

Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

Dr. St. Pierre may recommend a crown for several restorative or cosmetic reasons, including:

  • Protecting a weak tooth from breaking or holding together parts of a cracked tooth.
  • Restoring a tooth that has already broken or is severely worn down.
  • Covering and supporting a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t much tooth left.
  • Covering a dental implant or a tooth that has undergone a root canal.
  • Improving the appearance of misshapen or severely discolored teeth.

The Dental Crown Process

Restoring your tooth with a crown typically requires two comfortable visits to our Covington dental office:

  1. Preparation & Impression: During the first visit, Dr. St. Pierre will prepare the tooth by removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a seamless fit. We then take a detailed impression (mold) of your tooth, which is sent to a world-class dental laboratory where your custom Zirconia or eMax crown is crafted. You will be fitted with a temporary crown during this time.
  2. Placement: Once your permanent crown is ready, you’ll return to our office. Dr. St. Pierre will check the fit, bite, and color match before permanently bonding the crown into place. You’ll leave our office with a restoration that looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth.
